School Welcome Centers to Cost District $193,450

Welcome centers and receptionist areas will be built in Wilcox, Bissell and Dodge.

The Twinsburg school boards called a special meeting Tuesday night to move forward with $193,450 in construction projects at three schools.

The board unanimously approved a contract by Apex Construction, in Bedford Heights, to install a welcome center and receptionist area in Wilcox Primary, Bissell Elementary and Dodge Intermediate, according to the agenda.

Construction on these projects is expected to begin once the contract is signed.

"We hope to have most of it done before the start of school, but it's likely there will be work done during the school year," Assistant Superintendent Mike Lenzo said.

Costs will be paid for through the district's permanent improvement funds.

Plans for construction began with Wilcox in May, with the 155-square-foot addition creating more security for the building, later including two other school buildings in the plan.

In March an instructional assistant was arrested after refusing to leave Wilcox after getting into an argument with a teacher.

After construction is complete plans will then shift to doing the same work in the high school and middle school, Lenzo said.
