Three Students Honored for Extra Efforts by the School Board

The Board of Education recognized the work of three students who have gone above and beyond their effort in the classroom

Three students were recognized for their achievements outside of the classroom at Wednesday night’s Board of Education meeting.

The board and administrators honored senior Matt Selander for winning the Web design competition for the Ohio Business Professionals of America (BPA). BPA is a student organization that prepares high school students to be future leaders in the business world.

By winning, Selander will represent the state at the national competition in Washington, D.C., in the first week of May.

“He’s a little nervous to get on a plane, but we really appreciate it and it’s a great honor,” Twinsburg City Schools Superintendent Stephen Marlow said.

“Just to represent Twinsburg there in the nationals in Washington [D.C.] is amazing,” Principal Louise Teringo said.

Also honored at Wednesday night’s meeting were two senior leaders of the high school’s Green Team and Environmental Club.

Christine Verrichio and Kayla Pleau were recognized for their efforts around the school and in the community for leading the charge in creating an environmentally friendly atmosphere.

“We have made Twinsburg High School a more environmentally efficient school with the help of the Green Team,” Pleau said.

As part of their efforts they have been involved and are working to create an organic garden in the courtyard behind the school.

“One of the great things the group has done this year was be a part of the Be The One recycling program,” Verrichio said. “This program has made Twinsburg High School the number one recycling school of the year.”

Their great efforts haven’t gone unnoticed by the school, either.

“These are things you don’t see on a state report card,” Marlow said. “I think it’s a tribute to our community that we really focus on the whole student.”
