"Our current stake body truck is just about gone," Board Member Stephen Shebeck said. "It's practically not safe to drive anymore."

Shebeck said Assistant Superintendent Mike Lenzo searched extensively for the best price and the next lowest cost was just over $28,000.

The board also voted in favor of placing ads on the district websites.

A service agreement with Scholastic Sponsors Association was approved that will allow area businesses to place a small ad or logo on the site.

President Ron Stuver said the board followed up with other districts that have done this before and had no problems with the ads.

Stuvers said sponsors could include companies such as the Cleveland Clinic and estimated revenues of $10,000 to $15,000. The board would have to approve advertisers and has the right to refuse ads.

Other board actions:

  • The board approved a request for updated textbooks for graphic design and photography classes worth more than $4,000. Board member Paul Crosby joked the photography books were so outdated, they included instructions on creating a dark room.
  • Unanimously voted on a business course called the Success Class to prepare freshman for secondary education and life skills. Also approved was $5,000 for textbooks to go with the new class. Look for an update on this story later today.
  • Substitute contracts, supplemental contracts as well as several summer staff development contracts were approved. The district also accepted the resignation of Louise Schweitzer and Dolores Higham. Scweitzer has been with the district for 10 years and Higham for 11 years.
