Late Rally Powers Cuyahoga Falls over Twinsburg, 46-38

Freshmen lead Black Tigers to comeback victory

Sloppy basketball was the name of the game on Friday night at Twinsburg High School.

Turnovers plagued both teams in the first half, and the two played to a 12-12 tie after one quarter. Senior guard Tim Bridenthal scored 10 of the Black Tigers' first-quarter points.

"The first time we played them, we were up 33-13 at half," said Cuyahoga Falls head coach Rob Slone. "They made some adjustments [tonight], and we didn't adjust ... and gave up a lot of easy looks."

The second quarter followed suit, but Twinsburg began to pull away until the final minute. Junior Cory Asbury canned back-to-back 3-pointers to bring Falls within two points. Twinsburg reached halftime with a four-point lead.

"I told them we had to push the ball a little bit more and be smarter with our pressure," said Slone.

Cuyahoga Falls found their groove offensively in the third quarter, thanks to the play of freshman Josh Ricker, who scored six points toward the end of the quarter. His 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Black Tigers the momentum heading into the fourth quarter.

Aaron Macer's fast-break dunk early in the fourth quarter looked as if it would turn the tide in favor of Twinsburg, but Cuyahoga Falls' relentless offensive attack kept the Tigers at bay. Freshman guard Jay Slone nailed two 3-pointers in the final minutes of the game put the Black Tigers in front by 10 points, and consecutive defensive stops sealed the come back victory for Cuyahoga Falls.

Cuyahoga Falls improved to 4-11 on the year, while Twinsburg dropped to 5-10. Cuyahoga Falls hosts Solon on Tuesday, and Twinsburg will play Riverside tomorrow night at home.
