Seniors Look to Spark Twinsburg Softball This Season

Lady Tigers' Farmer and Menhart will close out high school careers

Twinsburg softball coach Tiffany Yehle has an impressive softball resume, playing for state power Akron Ellet in high school and earning All-Mid American Conference and Great Lakes Region honors during her college career at the University of Akron.

So when Yehle says this year's Tiger team has the potential to do big things, you might want to listen.

"We have a very talented group of young ladies," said Yehle. "We are led by our senior class and have strong pitching."

Senior standouts Ambur Farmer and Taylor Menhart will be closing out their high school careers for Twinsburg this spring. The two talented outfielders will continue to play in college with Farmer headed for Niagra and Menhart going to Ashland.

The pitching chores will be handled by another senior stalwart, Lisa Lash. The other returnining seniors include first baseman Jess Besquette, outfielder Kristen Flipski and second baseman Morgan Thompson.

Junior Morgan Wright will start at catcher and a strong sophomore class includes catcher HollyAdkins, shortstop Alyssa Carcioppolo, infielder-outfielder Nicole Markey and third baseman Emily Sheets. Freshman Kourtney Pauls will contribute as a utility player.

"With Lisa on the mound we have the pitching," said Yehle. "Jess has strong leadership skills and Kourtney has a lot of athletic talent and can play the infield or outfield."

Yehle turned around the program at Kent Roosevelt and knows her high school softball, having played on a state championship team at Ellet in 1997 after making back-to-back Final Four appearances the previous two years. She takes a 77-63 career mark into her seventh season as a head coach.

The Lady Tigers were scheduled to open the season by hosting Elyria, but that game, along with their game at Normandy on Wednesday, were postponed. Yehle will have a homecoming when Twinsburg plays at Ellet today at 11 a.m.

The Lady Tigers will also compete in the 18th annual Wendy's Spring Classic April 15-16 at Ashland. The event will feature three of the current Ohio state champions.
