Learn How To Use Patch and Facebook to Boost Your Charity's Profile

IRS Offers Up Some Tax Advice for Year-End Giving

Get ready for tax season with these tips for preparing your returns.

Plan now and be ready for tax time. With the holidays and the end of the calendar year quickly approaching, the Internal Revenue Service is offering up some tax tips for donating around the holidays. The following tips are straight from the IRS, with some new features noted in the code: Rules for donating clothing and household items To be deductible, clothing and household items donated to charity generally must be in good used condition or better. A clothing or household item for which a taxpayer claims a deduction of over $500 does not have to meet this standard if the taxpayer includes a qualified appraisal of the item with the return. Student Fundraising Dance Will Pay Off Well

Twinsburg High School students raise money to build wells in Africa

A group of Twinsburg High School students will host the second annual Wellsprings of Change charity dance this Sunday, Aug. 14, to raise money to build wells in Africa. “We donate all of the funds we raise to charity: water,” said Will Myers, a prominent member of the student group and this year’s valedictorian. All the money goes to the organization charity: water, a nonprofit organization providing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations. “It’s an incredible charity," Myers said. "They use 100 percent of the funds they raise because their operating cost is covered by private donors.” The dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn ballroom.
