After a record-setting career at Ohio University, a Twinsburg native is looking to carry on a tradition of kicking excellence for the Cleveland Browns.
Matt Weller grew up in Twinsburg looking up to another local native athlete, Zoltan Mesko. Weller, who set records as a kicker for the Ohio Bobcats football team, is now training with the Cleveland Browns and hopes to carry on the punting success that Mesko showed in his NFL career with the New England Patriots, according to a story posted on the Cleveland Browns website. “That would be amazing, and that’s the goal,” Weller said at a recent workout with the Browns. “It’s a tough goal to have, and he obviously did it, and he’s still doing pretty well. To follow in those footsteps, that will be a challenge, but it’s a challenge worth chasing. "In my college career, I’ve seen about every opportunity. To learn from those experiences, I think …

The Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers will battle it out for the Super Bowl on Sunday.
If you're a Cleveland Browns fan, you know that it's really going to be the "once-upon-a-time" Browns that will take the field against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The Baltimore Ravens play in Super Bowl 47 on Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m on CBS (Channel 19-WOIO) It's the Ravens second Super Bowl appearance since 1996, when the late Art Modell moved the Browns from Cleveland to Baltimore. In that same span, Browns fans have suffered through years without football and a consistently lousy football team that boasts only one playoff appearance, ending in a heart-breaking loss to Pittsburgh. With all that said, who are you rooting for in the Super Bowl? Are there any Browns fans that will be rooting for the Ravens? Tell us why in the comments. Or …

The Cleveland Browns have sold the naming rights to their stadium. What do you think about the new name?
Cleveland Browns Stadium is no more. From now on fans will watch Cleveland football games at FirstEnergy Stadium. On Tuesday afternoon owner Jimmy Haslem announced that Akron-based FirstEnergy Corporation was awarded the naming rights to the football stadium. It is the first time in franchise history that the Browns stadium has a corporate name, joining the ranks of other NFL teams who have done the same, according to The Plain Dealer. They reported that no details of the agreement between the two parties were disclosed. What do you think of the new stadium name? What would you name it? After Pat Shurmur's firing, I let my mind wander about who could be the next head coach. Here's what I came up with.
I called for Pat Shurmer's firing last season, and while it took an extra year, it finally happened. On Monday the Cleveland Browns let go of Head Coach Pat Shurmer, along with General Manager Tom Heckert. To be honest, I do feel bad for Shurmer. He was put in a tough spot. He came in with no time to work with his team due to the lockout and because, well, it is the Cleveland Browns we're talking about; no coach comes in without something going terribly wrong. Still, it didn't seem like Shurmer was a good fit for the team and the city. And his putrid play-calling didn't help him much. Let's be real here: If you have eight yards for a first down, don't throw a two-yard crossing route! Alas, Browns fans are looking to the future, yet again…

It has been reported today that the Cleveland Browns' head coach and General Manager Tom Heckert have been fired on Monday.
Everyone saw it coming after the Cleveland Browns 24-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday, but it was confirmed on Monday: Head Coach Pat Shurmer and General Manager Tom Heckert are gone. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported through Twitter Monday morning that both had been fired after a less-than-stellar 5-11 season. Shurmer had a dismal 9-23 record over his first two seasons as the head coach. He took the position in 2011. Heckert was hired in 2010. With Shurmur out the door, the Browns will begin their search for a new head coach immediately. The Plain Dealer reports some names in the running are University of Oregon coach Chip Kelly, Penn State's Bill O'Brien, Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator and interim head coach Bruce Arians …

Ernie Green, a Browns legend who played alongside Hall of Famer Jim Brown, was diagnosed in 2005.
In the spirit of 'men can get breast cancer too,' we wanted to share the story of a Cleveland legend who survived breast cancer. When he played for the Browns from 1962-1968 as a fullback alongside Football Hall of Famer Jim Brown, Ernie Green lived in Shaker Heights, according to The Plain Dealer. Green watched his two sisters survive the disease before he was diagnosed himself in 2005. He was treated at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. Active in philanthropy and a successful business man, Green lives in Dayton. So before you dismiss that lump you feel, get it checked out. It took 6 weeks but the Browns can finally call themselves winners.

Another week... another disappointing loss. The Browns simply couldn’t pull off some last second magic and ended up losing after a last second hail mary pass was thrown out the back of the endzone.

I love the Browns, but I was a big 49ers fan when I was younger. I had the Starter jacket and everything. So I would root for them anyway. However, the Ravens add fuel to the fire. Plus, it'd be nice to see Raby "Bambi" Lewis lose his last game ever.   more ›
