Drunken Driving Checkpoint in Portage County Saturday

The exact location and time will be announced Saturday morning.

On Saturday evening, the Ohio State Highway Patrol will conduct a drunken driving checkpoint somewhere in Portage County.  The exact location of the checkpoint won't be released until Saturday morning.  The checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. "Based on provisional data, there were 332 OVI-related fatal crashes in which 359 people were killed last year and 7,507injured in Ohio," Lt. Nakia Hendrix, commander of the Ravenna Post, said. "State troopers make on average 25,000 OVIarrests each year in combating these dangerous drivers. Checkpoint on State Route 43 Saturday Evening

The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be looking for drunk drivers in Brimfield Aug. 25, 2012.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced Saturday morning that it will conduct a drunken driving checkpoint in Brimfield with the help of the Brimfield Police Department.  The exact location is at mile post 9 in Brimfield from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.  "If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired," according to a press release from the patrol. Portage County will be the location of an OVI checkpoint sometime Saturday evening, the Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today. "Based on provisional data, there were 332 OVI­-related fatal crashes in which 359 people were killed last year and 7,507 injured 11 Ohio," Lt. Nakia Hendrix, commander of the Ravenna Post, said. “State troopers make on average 25,000 OVI arrests each year in combating these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways." Drunken Driving Checkpoint (Somewhere) This Week

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said it will announce the location the morning of the operation.

There will be an OVI checkpoint somewhere in the area this week, but the Ohio State Highway Patrol has not announced the location or day yet. The patrol announced in a press release Monday morning from Ravenna that sometime in the next seven days a sobriety checkpoint will be set up to "deter and intercept impaired drivers."  The day before the checkpoint is set up, the county where it will take place will be announced. Sobriety Checkpoint Location on S.R. 59 Announced

The checkpoint will be set up from 10 p.m. April 14 until 2 a.m. April 15

The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced the drunk driving checkpoint in Portage County April 14 will be set up on State Route 59 in Kent near milepost 3. The checkpoint, funded by federal grants, will be conducted with the help of the Kent Police Department from 10 p.m. Saturday April 14 until 2 a.m. Sunday April 15.  "The checkpoint will also be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat alcohol-related injury and fatal crashes," according to a press release.  The most recent checkpoint in Brimfield on St. Patrick's Day nabbed 17 drunk drivers.

The police are required by law to do it. I just don't like seeing media outlets & folks using social media to publicize these spots - it just makes it easier for drunks to avoid them & drive drunk elsewhere.   more ›

Nakia Hendrix, commander of the Ravenna Post, said. “State troopers make on average 25,000 OVI arrests each year in combating these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.” The latest checkpoint was in Portage County in Brimfield on St. Patrick's Day. Officers arrested 17 for drunk driving.

Woman Arrested for Drunken Driving, Speeding: The Blotter

The following information was provided by the Twinsburg Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

On Feb.25 a Twinsburg police officer saw a car speeding over I-480 heading west. He turned and followed the car and saw it was weaving. After stopping the driver, she was arrested and charged for speeding, weaving, drunken driving and high blood-alcohol content, after she blew a .233 during a breath test. On Feb. 24 officers stopped a car for a traffic violationand subsequently arrested and charged with the driver for speeding, possession of marijuana, and two counts of drug paraphernalia, and underage prohibitions. A juvenile occupant was charged with possession of marijuana and curfew. On Feb. 26 police responded to the Hilton Garden Inn for a theft from a car, which occurred sometime between the 4:30 p.m. the day before and 8:30 a.m. …

Cleaning Crew Accidentally Sets Off Bank Alarm Leading to Warrant Arrest

What started as a humorous accident turned out to be a bad day for an Akron man. On October 15 the Twinsburg Police Department were alerted to the silent alarm at the Fifth Third Bank on Darrow Road. When officers got to the bank, two men who worked on the cleaning crew were leaving the building after accidentally hitting the alarm button while working. When the officers did a quick background check the found one of the men, Nathan Ketterman, 53, of Akron, had a felony probation violation on a drunk driving arrest through the Carter County Sheriff's Office in Tennesee. Ketterman was arrested and held for transfer to Tennesse.

Solon Cop Petranic Pleads Guilty to Drunk Driving

Christopher Petranic will keep his job as a cop, but serve a 70-day unpaid suspension

Solon Police Officer Christopher Petranic will serve three days in the Twinsburg jail and three days in an alcohol treatment program after pleading guilty Monday to drunk driving. Petranic was arrested in March after crashing his personal car into a tree on Darrow Road in Twinsburg. He was arrested and charged with drunk driving and failure to control after recording a blood-alcohol level of .238, nearly three times the legal limit, according to the police report. Petranic initially pleaded not guilty to the charges in Stow Municipal Court, but changed his plea to guilty. According to the Twinsburg Bulletin, Petranic was sentenced to 180 days in jail and fined $1,000, but 174 days and $600 of the sentence was suspended. The failure to …
