Tigers' Season Comes Down To Crucial Mentor Game

Twinsburg plays host to the state's top-ranked team, Mentor Cardinals, Friday night

The season comes down to a single game for Twinsburg Friday night. And that game will be played against none other than Ohio's top-ranked Division I team, the unbeaten Mentor Cardinals. The Tigers, ranked 14th in the Division I, Region 2 computer poll, need to pull off a big upset to have any chance at the post-season playoffs. Mentor is unbeaten and ranked 34th by ESPN in its national rankings. "Everything is on the line," said Twinsburg head coach Joe Schiavone, whose team takes a 6-3 overall mark into the regular season finale. Old rivals meet again when Tigers host the Comets in a huge NOC showdown

They have met on the football field 50 times in the past but only one game matters when Solon makes the short bus trip down the road to Twinsburg Friday night. The Comets and the Tigers will renew one of the oldest and fiercest rivalries in the area with computer points, a possible NOC Valley Division crown and a lot of pride on the line. Solon, ranked 13th in the state poll, is coming off a 44-20 loss to unbeaten Mentor, snapping the Comets' 20-game home winning streak. Tigers' John Barton Shattering School Records as a Junior

Junior running back John Barton is a scoring machine as the Tiger offense gears up for division action

Even though John Barton is just a high school junior, he has already established a second home. It's called the end zone. All Barton did Friday night was set a school record with seven touchdowns in Twinsburg's 48-27 rout of Brush. He has 16 touchdowns in the first five games of the season, well ahead of last year's pace when he finished with 17 touchdowns as a sophomore. The hard-nosed Barton scored on touchdown runs of six, five, nine, 13, two, five and 21 yards against the Arcs. He finished with 152 yards rushing and added another 108 yards in pass receptions. For the season, Barton is averaging five yards per carry and 21 yards per reception. He is also a game-changer, returning kicks with a 38-yard average, including a 90-yard return …

The Tigers picked up their first home win of the season to bring record to 3-2

The Twinsburg Tigers picked up a major win tonight in front of the homecoming crowd, defeating Brush 48-27. Junior running back John Barton was an unstoppable force as he gashed the Brush defense for seven touchdowns. Twinsburg improves to 3-2 on the season and heads to Strongsville next Friday for a divisional matchup against the Mustangs.
