Twinsburg will charge the festival $20K per year through 2014
Less than a month before the Twins Days Festival kicks off a deal was reached on how much it will pay the city for services. Twinsburg City Council approved setting a flat fee of $20,000 starting this year and lasting through 2014. The city audits the services it provides, for purposes of streamlining and a flat fee makes it easier to budget. By setting a fee, the festival can easily budget a number and know what to expect each year, as well. “We’ve been going back and forth with what services and products we provide and how much to charge," At-Large Councilman Gary Sorace said. "I think this was a fair agreement without going back and forth.” A bulk of the cost consists of paying overtime for city workers who set up signs and banners and …

City council still trying to decide best path for the future
Even though there wasn't any legislation about the State Route 91 project Tuesday night, Twinsburg City Council still spent plenty of time discussing the issue. At the end of the meeting At-Large Councilman Gary Sorace made a motion to to hold the project and consider other options. However, only he and Ward 2 Councilman Bob McDermott voted for it. “The longer we continue to head in this direction, I think we sending the message that it is a done deal,” Sorace said. "Let’s show them what the other options are." Phase I of the project would widen SR 91 from Post Road to Glenwood Drive and construct a roundabout at the Glenwood intersection. Sorace said he has only heard from two residents in favor of the roundabouts, and continues to hear …

Plans barely move forward on construction of SR 91, not yet a "done deal."
Twinsburg City Council President Ted Yates said plans to construct roundabouts at two intersections on State Route 91 are not a "done deal." That sentiment was shared by several council members, especially when voting on a motion to post comments from the October meeting about the road construction. Council split 4-3 in favor of posting the comments that were addressed from the October meeting, some fearing this would be moving forward on a project they were unsure about it. Yates, Ward 1 Councilman Sam Scaffide, At-Large Councilman Bill Furey, and Ward 4 Councilwoman Maureen Stauffer voted for moving forward. Ward 5 Councilman Seth Rodin, Ward 2 Councilman Bob McDermott and At-Large Councilman Gary Sorace voted against it. Sorace, who …

At least three charter amendments weren’t published during the November 2009 election
At least three of Twinsburg’s ballot issues in the November 2009 will be revisited in the spring, according to Councilman Gary Sorace. Sorace, a council representative to the Charter Review Oversight Committee, said while looking into this past election's ballot issues which weren’t advertised, several other issues from 2009 had the same problem. After discussing it with Law Director David Maistros, Sorace said they all need to go through the voters’ booth again, the right way. “We decided we have to go back and do these all right, the correct way, so we don’t have any problems in the future,” Sorace said. At least three of the 2009 issues deal with changes to the city’s charter. One established certain criteria for appointing a law …

After a tough Ward 3 council race in November, not only did Ted Yates keep his seat, he was elected president of Twinsburg City Council. Yates was elected council president and Ward 5 Councilman Seth Rodin was elected to the vice president seat at Tuesday night's meeting. As his first order of business, new Council President Yates named the new list of committees that each member would serve on. He will look after the Finance Committee, Public Works Committee, Fitness Advisory Board, and Chamber of Commerce Committee. Council President Gary Sorace said city council will decide what to do after both issues, which were invalid, failed
Even though all three Twinsburg ballot issues failed on Tuesday, city council will discuss what they will do next with the proposed charter and zoning amendments. Council President Gary Sorace said they will talk about it in the future, but he is not sure what the outcome might be. He also said 15 to 20 residents came to him because they didn't understand what the proposed charter amendments, Issues 62 and 63, meant. "It tells me, maybe we need to do a better job of explaining them," Sorace said. Last week Twinsburg resident Sally Gaydosh told council she hadn’t seen any legal publication of Issues 62 and 63 in any of the local newspapers. Sorace said he met with Law Director David Maistros Wednesday and they determined the law was not …

Ohio law requires public notification of ballot issues, which Twinsburg didn’t follow
Because Twinsburg officials did not publish notification of three ballot issues up for vote on Nov. 8, residents may have to vote on the items again in the spring, City Council President Gary Sorace said Thursday morning. Twinsburg resident Sally Gaydosh told council Tuesday night that she hadn’t seen any legal publication of Issues 62 and 63 in any of the local newspapers. Sorace said he met with Law Director David Maistros Wednesday and they determined the law was not followed. “What we found is the advertising wasn’t done and basically, because of that, we’re going to resubmit the information next time around, and do it properly,” Sorace said. According to Ohio Revised Code Section 731.211 residents must be notified of proposed charter …

The cost of garbage service could be decided on the number of pickup days residents want
Twinsburg will go shopping for trash service for the first time since 2005. City Council unanimously rejected legislation Tuesday night (At-Large Councilman Bill Furey was absent) that would have extended the city’s contract with Waste Management, Inc. for another three years. Instead, the city will test the waters again for the best price. “I don’t understand why we wouldn’t go out to bid on this,” Ward 3 Councilman Ted Yates said. The three-year extension was passed over at the last meeting because council wanted to compare the numbers from a variety of other cities in the area. The current contract, ending in December, was a three-year extension of the original agreement made in 2005. The proposed extension would have extended the …
