Mentor Ends Tigers' Season With Huge Shutout

Cardinals top Twinsburg Tigers 41-0.

The Twinsburg Tigers knew Mentor had a star in Mitch Trubisky, but they didn't realize the star of Friday's game would be the Cardinals' defense. That defense guaranteed Mentor (9-1) would be the NEO Conference Valley Division champions by shutting out a talented Twinsburg Tigers team (6-4) Friday night at Jerome T. Osborne Stadium. The Tigers, who do have playmakers including quarterback Jalen Washington and running back Tyrone McGuinea, could not generate any momentum against the Cardinals staunch defense. Mentor sacked the Tigers five times, costing Twinsburg a total of 52 yards, and intercepted them twice. "They played really hard on defense," Mentor Head Coach Steve Trivisonno said. "They played hard and they played fast." Meanwhile, …

Twinsburg Hopes to Stun Mentor Again

Last season the Tigers knocked off the No. 1 Cardinals but narrowly missed the playoffs.

For the second year in a row, it all comes down to Mentor for the Twinsburg Tigers. The Tigers faced their toughest challenge last season when they hosted the top-ranked and undefeated (9-0) Mentor Cardinals at Tiger Stadium. In order to reach the state playoffs and win the Northeast Ohio Conference's Valley Division, the Tigers had to do the unthinkable and knock off the Cardinals, who had seemed nearly unbeatable during much of the 2011 season. In a game that will likely be remembered for years at Twinsburg High School, the Tigers defeated Mentor, 38-35. The game was a thrilling shootout, as junior quarterback Jalen Washington completed 27 of 38 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns for the Tigers. "I'm so proud of our guys and how …

Twinsburg Stuns Solon Late, Wins 29-22 (VIDEO)

Twinsburg scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to defeat Solon 29-22

Tigers senior running back Tyrone McGuinea scored from two yards out with 1:25 left in the game. The Comets got the ball back at the 8 yard line and 1:21 left, but was unable to convert a fourth down. Solon jumped to a lead early when George Berry scored on a 1-yard run from the quarterback position. The extra point was no good after a high snap, and Solon added a 37-yard field goal from kicker Keon Hemerlein. Twinsburg scored in the second quarter after receiver…

Tigers Hope to Burn Brush on Friday

After a stunning double-overtime win last week, Twinsburg hopes to win its third straight

Last week it took two overtime periods for the Twinburg Tigers to close out a win against the Stow Bulldogs, 13-7. Twinsburg (2-2) hopes to make quick work of the Brush Arcs (2-2) as they head to Brush for Friday's 7 p.m. kickoff. Last season, the Tigers dominated Brush 48-27 on homecoming, thanks to seven touchdowns by John Barton. Player to watch Barton won't be in action, but the Tigers hope to get another solid performance from Tyrone McGuinea who had 50 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries against Stow. McGuinea also had three receptions for 11 yards out of the backfield.
