Thousands of Kent residents and Kent State University students and staff witnessed history Wednesday as President Barack Obama campaigned at the MACC. Hundreds more watched the president deliver his campaign speech on TV from an overflow space in the Kent State Student Center. And even hundreds more gathered on campus and around town to follow the president's visit online. Kendra Landfair was one of those lucky 6,600 people who watched from inside the MACC. Beforehand, she braved pouring rain and stood in line for almost six hours to get a glimpse of the president. Kent campaign stop one of two on college campuses in Northeast Ohio.
Some came to hear about the president's views on Medicare, Social Security, or women's healthcare. Some merely wished to see a sitting president in the flesh. But all braved a steady downpour on Wednesday to see the President Barack Obama speak at Kent State University. Obama came on stage shortly after 5:30 p.m. "Hello Kent State! Go Flashes!" he called to the roaring crowd. His remarks began by touching on themes of opportunity and success for the middle class. Tickets required for campaign stop at MAC
Editor's note: The Obama campaign has limited the number of tickets to 5,000. Read about it here. Campaign and university officials formally recognized what many have known for days: President Barack Obama is coming to the Kent State University campus Wednesday afternoon. Tickets are required in order to enter the campaign stop in the Kent State Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. Doors for the event open at 3:30 p.m. Tickets will be handed out one per person on a first-come, first-served basis at three locations around town starting at 9 a.m. today. President is scheduled to visit Kent State Wednesday
President Barack Obama's planned campaign stop in Kent on Wednesday may not prove as costly as recent stops in other small towns across the country. Kent Police Chief Michelle Lee said information remains scarce about the Democratic incumbent's scheduled visit, but he is expected to be in Kent by 3:50 p.m. Wednesday via the Akron-Canton Airport. Lee said the time may change. "That’s going to depend on where exactly he’s going to go," she said. "The plan is he’s going to be on the (Kent State University) campus somewhere." New architecture, applied engineering buildings part of more than $186 million Kent campus renovation
Two new buildings and other construction projects totaling more than $146 million on the Kent State University main campus got the go ahead from university trustees Wednesday. The Kent State Board of Trustees voted Wednesday to approve four major projects in the more than $186 million total renovation planned in the next several years at the Kent campus. The projects formally approved Wednesday were discussed at the trustees' June meeting and presented informally to the staff and student body earlier this year. The projects approved Wednesday are part of a broader building and renovation initiative dubbed "Foundations of Excellence: Building the Future,” by Kent State officials.
