Letter To The Editor: Thanks To Solon, Twinsburg For Support

This is a letter to the editor from a Patch reader.

Recently, my sister and her four small children lost their wonderful husband and father.  On behalf of her family, I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart, the Chicago Deli & Restaurant in Solon.  They have been so much more than her place of employment.  This is truly a ‘family’ business.  I can only imagine how much this has meant to her, but from her ‘other’ family, it helps to know that there are others surrounding her who love and support her as much as we do.  We can never express our gratitude for everything you have done and continue to do for her and the kids.  Thank you is not enough.  We would also like to thank the Twinsburg community where she lives for the outpouring of generosity and support that they have given to…

Letter to the Editor: Twinsburg Schools Need Constant Police Presence

A Twinsburg resident wants the police to put a police officer at the access door of each school. Do you like this idea?

Editor's Note: The following is a letter to the editor from a Twinsburg resident. In light of Friday's tragedy in Newtown, CT, I'm writing to you with concern for security in Twinsburg City School buildings. Budget concerns aside, I feel it necessary to demand that an on-duty Twinsburg Police officer be stationed at the access-door of each school. A foolproof solution? No. But, a uniformed officer in the doorway may give pause to someone bent on maximum mayhem before first-responders have left the station. The door buzzer system currently used does not inspire confidence. My 10 year old is a fourth-grader at Dodge. My 9 year old is in third-grade at Bissell. My 6 year old loves his first-grade class at Wilcox. Next year, our youngest will …

A police officer at the school would patrol the building. While he's away from the front door, nobody enters. If someone breaks in another way, a police officer would do what police officers do. He would run toward the trouble to neutralize while calling the cavalry on his radio. You can't overstate the deterrent factor. Bad guys avoid police officers for obvious reasons. Cost is certainly a …   more ›

Letter to the Editor: Superintendent Powers Adresses Budget Cuts

Twinsburg City School District Superintendent Kathryn Powers talks to the community about how the district will approach the potential cuts in the coming months

Dear Twinsburg Schools Community: Recently, the Ohio Department of Education released a draft ranking list of school districts and school buildings in Ohio.  This ranking is based on the Performance Index score which is tabulated using students’ results on the Ohio Achievement Tests and the Ohio Graduation Tests.  The purpose for the ranking will be to provide parents and taxpayers a new way to evaluate how local schools are performing while allowing educators to compare their performance against their peers.  A first glimpse of the draft ranking list indicates that our Twinsburg students achieve at a very high degree of success as our school district ranked 65th out of 613 school districts in Ohio.  This means that the Twinsburg City …
