In a divided 3-2 vote, the Twinsburg Board of Education voted Monday to put a 4.9-mill renewal levy on the ballot during the Aug. 6 special election. School board members were united in their belief that the renewal levy is needed but had disagreements on the timing. Board President Kate Cain-Criswell and members Stephen Shebeck and Ron Stuver voted to hold the levy in August. Vice President Paul Crosby and Board Member David Andrews voted no because they believed the levy should be in November. The Board of Education approved a resolution setting the date for the 6.9-mill levy vote during Wednesday's meeting. A second resolution still needs to be approved by the school board. The renewal levy would not raise new money from taxpayers, it would simply continue taxes they are already paying. Without the levy, the schools would be out $4.3 million annually and would have to again discuss operational and instructional cuts. A 4.9-mill tax levy to support the Twinsburg schools would cost property owners annually about $150 per $100,000 of property value, according to the district.
Voters in Twinsburg will decide in November whether to endorse, with their tax money, a levy to support the Twinsburg City School District. The district is asking residents to support a 4.9 mill continuing operating levy. If approved it will cost the owner of a $100,000 home $150.06 annually, according to the district's data. If Issue 69 is approved, it will create $3.8 million each year for the district, in addition to the recent $3.2 million in cuts and changes. Combined they will fill the $7 million hole in district operating expenses. This continuing levy would commence in 2012 with taxes due in 2013. Read more:

Recent data from community surveys about the Twinsburg schools provided new insight to district administrators and the school board
The community has spoken and while it's happy with the quality of education in Twinsburg, more transparency and communication is a must. The Impact Group, a marketing firm in Hudson, revealed data from phone and online surveys and community forums asking parents' thoughts on the Twinsburg school district. In total, 767 people took either the phone or online survey and 24 people participated in the focus groups. Superintendent Kathryn Powers said this information is vital as the schools move forward. "It's very helpful on several fronts," said Powers. "With the operational change plans coming this year, we wanted to be on the money with what the community was saying about it."
