The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the checkpoint it announced earlier this week was will be in Portage County Saturday evening. The exact location of the drunken driving checkpoint will be known Saturday morning. The checkpoint is funded by federal grant funds and is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers, according to a press release from the Ravenna post. The Ohio State Highway Patrol sent out a press release Monday morning notifying the public that state troopers will conduct a drunken driving checkpoint sometime this week. The county where the checkpoint will be set up will be announced the day before and the exact location will be announced the morning of the checkpoint. "If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don't let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired," the patrol said in a prepared statement. A 53-year-old Twinsburg man was charged with a "super" drunken driving charge after he was pulled over for speeding, according to Twinsburg Police. On Jan. 18, at about 11:50 p.m. a Twinsburg Police officer pulled over a car travelling 55 miles per hour on Ravenna Road, which is a 35-mile-per-hour zone. While talking to the driver, the police officer smelled alcohol. The driver admitted to drinking, according to the report, and performed poorly on sobriety tests. He was arrested and taken to the Twinsburg jail, where he performed a breath test and registered a .208, more than double the legal limit of .08 and enough to bump up the charge to a so-called "super OVI." The man was released on bond and given a court date.

A 30-year-old Aurora woman is charged with drunken driving after she blew out all four tires on her car after driving on the wrong side of the road, then parked it on the road near a gas station and hid in the woods, according to Twinsburg Police. Danielle Dorsey, 30, of Aurora, is charged with drunken driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to control, according to a police report. At about 1:44 a.m. on Dec. 10, a Twinsburg police officer found a car partially on Darrow Road near the BP Station near I-480. The car had four flat tires, and was empty inside. A determined woman helped Twinsburg Police remove a drunken driver from city streets. On Dec. 7 at about 9:42 p.m., the woman called police to say that she was driving on Darrow Road behind someone driving erratically. She told police she had seen the car drive over several curbs before turning onto Darrow Park Drive. Officers arrived on the scene and the woman directed the police to the man's car, according to the police report. Officers found the driver, who was arrested for drunken driving. He registered a blood-alcohol level of .207, over the legal limit of .08, according to the report.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced Saturday morning that it will conduct a drunken driving checkpoint in Brimfield with the help of the Brimfield Police Department. The exact location is at mile post 9 in Brimfield from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. On May 6 a Twinsburg police officer saw a car weaving on Darrow Road and almost hit a sign when it turned onto Darrow Park Drive. During the traffic stop the officer smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic coming from the car. The driver said he was drinking and failed a series of sobriety tests.
