Scaffide's Drunken-Driving Charges Dropped

Ward 1 Councilman Sam Scaffide pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of reckless operation Monday

Twinsburg's Ward 1 Councilman Sam Scaffide pleaded guilty Monday morning to amended charges of reckless operation. Scaffide, 56, was originally charged with drunken driving on Nov. 23, but the charges were lessened to reckless operation, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, according to Hudson prosecutor Christopher Parker. All other charges were dropped. Scaffide will participate in a three-day driver intervention program. He was also fined $250 and court costs. Scaffide declined to comment. "The fact of the matter is, the driving was not that impaired, if you will," Parker said. "The major violation was a turn signal violation. That, coupled with the fact that he did well with the field sobriety test, lead the state to reduce it to reckless …

Ballot Issues Not Published, Election Results Now in Doubt

Ohio law requires public notification of ballot issues, which Twinsburg didn’t follow

Because Twinsburg officials did not publish notification of three ballot issues up for vote on Nov. 8, residents may have to vote on the items again in the spring, City Council President Gary Sorace said Thursday morning. Twinsburg resident Sally Gaydosh told council Tuesday night that she hadn’t seen any legal publication of Issues 62 and 63 in any of the local newspapers. Sorace said he met with Law Director David Maistros Wednesday and they determined the law was not followed. “What we found is the advertising wasn’t done and basically, because of that, we’re going to resubmit the information next time around, and do it properly,” Sorace said. Council Rejects Waste Management Inc. Extension, Goes Out to Bid

The cost of garbage service could be decided on the number of pickup days residents want

Twinsburg will go shopping for trash service for the first time since 2005. City Council unanimously rejected legislation Tuesday night (At-Large Councilman Bill Furey was absent) that would have extended the city’s contract with Waste Management, Inc. for another three years. Instead, the city will test the waters again for the best price. “I don’t understand why we wouldn’t go out to bid on this,” Ward 3 Councilman Ted Yates said. The three-year extension was passed over at the last meeting because council wanted to compare the numbers from a variety of other cities in the area. The current contract, ending in December, was a three-year extension of the original agreement made in 2005. The proposed extension would have extended the …
