Just what is Small Business Saturday and why should you support it in Twinsburg?

Big name national retailers take the spotlight on Black Friday as their deep price cuts pull in shoppers in droves. What about those mom-and-pop businesses all over Twinsburg and beyond that are the backbone of America’s economy? Just when do they get their day? That’s basically the question that was asked back in 2010 when the concept of Small Business Saturday was born. Small Business Saturday is “a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities,” the U.S. Small Business Administration explains on its website. Best Stop Cash Mob is Saturday

The Twinsburg convenience store is the cash mob spot for Nov. 17

The Best Stop Convenience Store is the site for Saturday's Twinsburg Cash Mob. The Ravenna Road store features a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables and specializes in in Indian and Asian foods. There is no specified time for the mob, but the store is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. "This is the kind of place we need to support: Small, family-owned and operated and probably 'off the radar' to most people," Michael Turle, cash mob creator, wrote on the group's Facebook page. Last month the crew did a month-long mob of Blue Jaye Farm.

People started shopping at the stroke of midnight at Great Lakes Mall

Thousands of shoppers got the earliest possible start at midnight on Black Friday in Great Lakes Mall. One of those Mindi Kikel, who said she had never gone shopping on Black Friday before. "I just like the commotion because there's so many people. It's exciting," she said, standing outside of the Toys 'R Us store with a friend. Jennifer Praniewicz came to the mall with eight of her family members. "It's just for fun and adventure," she said. "We were all together for Thanksgiving, so we thought, 'Hey, let's go at midnight. They're giving away prizes.'" The first 100 shoppers in the Macy's concourse received a free goody bag.
