Twinsburg Police Chief Offers Thoughts on Solon Shooting

Chief Chris Noga, who dealt with a fatal shooting in Twinsburg in 2008, said his department's thoughts are with Solon right now.

The shooting in Solon Sunday night is a situation all too familiar for Twinsburg Police Chief Chris Noga.  Solon Police released a detailed account of what happened on Sunnywood Drive Sunday night that led police officers to kill a man who fled from a traffic stop. Click here for the latest Solon Patch story.  In 2008, Twinsburg experienced a fatal shooting — when Officer Josh Miktarian was killed during a traffic stop in 2008. The morning after the shooting in Solon, Twinsburg's Chief Noga offered this comment: "In police work, there is no such thing as a ROUTINE traffic stop. Solon Agrees To House Twinsburg's Prisoners

The Solon City Council approved a three-year agreement to house Twinsburg's prisoners at the Solon jail.

The Solon City Council approved a three-year agreement to house Twinsburg's prisoners at the Solon jail. The Twinsburg City Council had already approved the agreement, which is a three-year deal that will pay Solon $85,200 per year. Twinsburg Police Chief Chris Noga said the deal will save the city money. "There will be actual savings in this," Noga said. Twinsburg police currently operates a 12-day facility. The operation cost for 2011 was $152,000 including labor, supplies, feeding prisoners, according to Noga. Potential savings in this agreement could be anywhere from $60,000 to $100,000, Noga said. Solon has spent the year making contracts with many surrounding communities to house their prisoners at the city's full-service jail.

Kirstin Frank, 23, of Middleburg Heights, isaccused of printing $11,000 worth of lottery tickets without paying for them while she worked at a Rite Aid in Westlake. Gotta go — Solon Police arrested a 62-year-old Garfield Heights man on Nov. 17 on U.S. 422, but not for his activity behind the wheel. The sight of Samuel L. Holcombe urinating on the side of the highway led to his drunken-driving arrest. According to the police report, an officer saw Holcombe get out of his truck and stagger to the side of the road to relieve himself. He was soon arrested and taken to Solon Jail. Huffing while driving — A cleaning product made a Cuyahoga Falls man veer off the road on Sept. 15, causing him to crash into a home on Bailey Road. Police said the man admitted to huffing a 12-ounce can of Ultra Duster at 6:43 a.m. as he drove his 2012 Chevy Cruze down Bailey. He crossed the northbound lane, jumped a curb and drove over the front lawn of the home and into the residence. No injuries were reported. It seems there's no alleged crime too bizarre to occur in Northeast Ohio. Here are some of this week's weird calls and charges. All information was provided by police reports from departments in Patch communities. Threatening Words: Though an Akron man returned the clothing he tried to steal from Walmart, he still ended up in a Fairlawn Police cruiser. He also had some threatening words for the arresting officer. Derek Sampson, 50, tried to walk out of Walmart in Fairlawn on May 13 with three pairs of shorts. When a security officer confronted him, Sampson returned the items. Officers arrested him for theft when he tried to exit again. Questioned in the Nude: Twinsburg Police didn't learn much about a stolen-money accusation on May 3, but they were exposed to a naked man. The unexpected showing occurred during officers' second trip to the Warren Parkway residence that day. Police came earlier because a woman was screaming for help outside. Police Crack Tri-County Auto Theft Ring

Mentor Police arrested two members of a suspected auto theft ring last week

Mentor Police helped crack an auto theft ring that was stealing vehicles from Lake, Summit and Cuyahoga counties, police said. The ring seemed to specialize in seasonal equipment, Mentor Police Lt. Tom Powers said. "It looks like this these are the same guys who were taking snow plows and four-by-fours in the winter. In the summer time, they took motorcycles, trailers and landscaping equipment," Powers said. Police departments from Mentor, Solon, Twinsburg, Willoughby, Wickliffe and Bedford, as well as the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Cleveland FBI office have been tracking suspects in the ring for the last two weeks, Powers said. Twinsburg Man Cited After Solon Police Find Him With Six Weapons

The information in this report is from the Solon Police. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

An 18-year-old Twinsburg man was cited for carrying concealed weapons by Solon Police after police found five knives and a club in his car. Solon Police pulled the man over for an equipment violation at 11:51 p.m. on Feb. 20. The officer noticed a large knife sticking out of the driver side door, partially concealed but ready at hand, according to the police report. He also had two more knives on him and two more knives in the car. The police also found a metal club in the car, according to the report. He was cited for carrying concealed weapons, a misdemeanor.
