Voters Will Decide On Renewal Levy in May

The Twinsburg Board of Education voted unanimously Wednesday to send a 6.9-mill renewal levy before the voters in May.

The Twinsburg Board of Education voted unanimously Wednesday to send a 6.9-mill renewal levy before the voters in May. According to the Summit County Fiscal Officer, the levy is expected to collect about $4.4 million annually. The renewal levy would not raise new money from taxpayers, it would simply continue taxes they are already paying. Without the levy, the schools would be out that $4.4 million annually and would have to again discuss operational and instructional cuts. The schools have already cut positions and raised fees to improve the district's budget picture. "If this levy were not to pass, we would actually be going backwards," said Board member Ron Stuver earlier this month. The operating levy was first approved in 1993 and …

Renewal Levy Vote Set For May

The renewal levy would not ask for new money from taxpayers. But without voter approval, Twinsburg Schools would lose $4.3 million annually.

Editor's Note: The original story had incorrect information. The levy will be put to voters in May. Twinsburg voters will likely head to the ballot boxes in May to decide whether to renew a school tax levy. The Board of Education approved a resolution setting the date for the 6.9-mill levy vote during Wednesday's meeting. A second resolution still needs to be approved by the school board. The renewal levy would not raise new money from taxpayers, it would simply continue taxes they are already paying. Without the levy, the schools would be out $4.3 million annually and would have to again discuss operational and instructional cuts. The schools have already cut positions and raised fees to improve the district's budget picture. "If this …

When does it ever end. First they raise our local tax to 2.25%. One of the highest in the state. Now they want another levy. We are already paying for a renewal in our current property tax. They talk about the district going in the red. Well what about residents going in the red? Means less money to save for college.   more ›

School Board Should Make Levy Decision by July

In order to get on the November ballot, a board vote on the levy would have to be made this summer

Now that the final changes have been approved to the Twinsburg City School District's 2012-13 school year budget, the discussion will likely move to a new levy. “The final piece of this puzzle is going to be asking the taxpayers for new money,” Board Member David Andrews said Wednesday, after the board finalized nearly $3.3 million in cuts and new revenue. Board President Ron Stuver said the board will be looking at a few things in May before they start seriously talking about a new levy. The board will examine the results of the Ohio Department of Education's audit of the last five-year forecast and also look at the newest forecast, which includes how the recent changes are implemented. "I want to see how those numbers are crunched by our…

Election 2011: Summit County DD Board Looks for Renewal with Issue 25

Issue 25, on the Nov. 8 ballot, would continue funding services for the county's developmental disabilities board

This November the Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board is hoping voters will renew a 4.5 mill levy that would help continue support and services for disabled persons around the county with Issue 25. What it is: Issue 25 will renew the 4.5 mill levy that accounts for 72 percent of Summit DD's operating funding, according to www.voteforsummitdd.org. By approving the renewal, it would only continue the existing tax levy, not adding any additional funding. Homeowners are expected to pay about $11.50 per month for every $100,000 in home value. History: The original levy was approved in November 2005 and will expire at the end of December 2012. The renewal would begin in 2013 and last until December 2018. The Summit DD Board has …
