Twinsburg School Levy (Issue 69) has been passed by voters.
Updated 12:36 a.m. Twinsburg voters are heading out to the polls today to vote on a number of items Tuesday... Election day. Likely the biggest issue before Twinsburg voters is the school district's 4.9 mill levy, Issue 69. If approved it will cost the owner of a $100,000 home $150.06 annually, according to the district's data. Issue 69 will create $3.8 million each year for the district, in addition to the recent $3.2 million in cuts and changes. Combined they will fill the $7 million hole in district operating expenses. This continuing levy would commence in 2012 with taxes due in 2013. There are also five charter amendments and two zoning issues on the ballot in Twinsburg. Voters in Twinsburg will decide Tuesday whether to endorse, with their tax money, a levy to support the Twinsburg City School District. Editor's note: This story was updated at 6:45 p.m. President Barack Obama will make a campaign stop in Mentor just three days before the election. According to a campaign statement, the president will speak at a "grassroots event" somewhere in the city on Saturday. A campaign official said more details will be available soon. The Mentor stop is part of a lengthy weekend tour. Obama will also speak at events in Dubuque, Iowa, Bristow, Va. and Milwaukee on Saturday. He will visit Concord, N.H., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Aurora, Colo. and Cincinnati on Sunday. Obama planned to campaign in Akron on Wednesday, but canceled the event. It's Monday in Ohio, so another presidential candidate is visiting. This time, it's Mitt Romney at the Avon Lake High School. Doors open at 9:15 a.m. and the event begins at 11:15 a.m. Since we've seen a number of these visits, we know that folks line up relly early. Tickets are free and you can get them by visiting the Ohio Romney campaign website or claiming them at the Avon Lake Romney campaign office at 375-J Lear Road, Avon Lake. Is your phone ringing and ringing?
Lately it seems like there's only Ohio voters in this presidential election. And the candidates are doing everything possible to talk to us. They visit, they send us letters and they call. Boy do they call. In our house, the phone rings from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sometimes it rings several times in an hour. The caller ID shows local numbers, numbers from other parts of the country and my personal favorite 1. That's right just the number 1. And you can't block the number 1. I tried. Sometimes they're political parties, sometimes they're the politicians or their wives (Ann Romney robocalled us one time), sometimes they are survey takers from Quinnipiac University and other university researchers. Probably will pass. Never ends. First, a local tax increase by a quarter which will probably last forever as politicians never give back extra money. Now, a huge levy. I guess everyone has unlimited funds in this city.   more ›
