Number of Staff Cuts, Fees Announced Tonight

The anticipated number of cuts to certificated and classified staff will be announced at tonight's board of education meeting

As part of her superintendent report at tonight's board of educaton meeting, Superintendent Kathryn Powers will announce more than 40 cuts to certificated and classified staff. The board of education meets at 7 p.m. at the Twinsburg Government Center. While the specifics of what positions and who will be cut are not yet known, Powers said they will likely cut 20 certificated staff members, and 20 full-time equivalents for classified staff, meaning more than 20 positions could be cut to include part-time workers. "We're going to be in a state of transition moving into next year," Powers said. This is part of the districts effort to reduce costs and add fees of $3.2 million for the 2012-13 school year. Final Thought/?: As the state budget cuts are made, I beg our elected representatives to remember our most fragile and needy citizens, our at-risk children. If even more are born in Ohio because of changing laws regarding when life begins, I hope we legislate supports for their right to a decent life after birth. When tragedy strikes a school district like Monday's shooting at Chardon High School, it only makes sense for other districts to look into their own policies and procedures for those situations. We reached out to Twinsburg Superintendent Kathryn Powers for her reaction to Monday's tragedy and how prepared the district is for the same situation. According to WKYC, one student is dead and four others were injured in Monday's shooting.

Board Approves $3.2 Million in Cuts, Fees

Twinsburg Schools' superintendent will begin process of making cuts over next several months

The target has been set at $3.2 million in cuts and new revenue for the Twinsburg City Schools' administration to make for the next school year. “By the April 18 board meeting we will have defined what these cuts will look like,” Superintendent Kathryn Powers said. Powers now has an official target in which to cut expenses and increase revenue through the collection of fees by approximately $3.2 million for the 2012-13 school year. Changes will include adjustments in areas outlined at the reductions options planning meeting on Jan. 25. “Regardless of the final decisions, there will be actions taken that will be challenging, this will not be easy,” Board President Ron Stuver said. Twinsburg City Schools is looking at $3.2 million in budget cuts, new revenue

  The Twinsburg City School District may have fewer teachers and support personnel next year as part of comprehensive plan to reduce costs in the district. The specifics on the positions to be cut and how many will depend on what cost-cutting measures school officials ultimately decide on this spring. Officials are looking to come up with at least $3.2 million, mostly in budget cuts but also new revenue. “It’s the interest of the school district to remain focused on academic achievement,” Superintendent Kathryn Powers said.  “There have been no decisions made. School Board to Discuss Future of Budget Cut Options

The board will discuss in-depth the what potential cuts may be used to balance the budget next year

The Twinsburg City School District's Board of Education will meet tonight to analyze and decide what budget cuts to make. The meeting will be in Twinsburg High School's L-Pod large group construction room at 6 p.m. In 2011 the district released a reduction plan of various options totaling $6 million. Board President Ron Stuver said tonight should start to put things into perspective and help them decide what direction to take on budget cuts. They will review the collection of options including budget cuts, fees, and levies. "This will help us for a dollar amount on the cuts we need to make," Stuver said. Tonight's Twinsburg Board of Education meeting begins an important three weeks in the financial planning for the Twinsburg City School District's future. In the next three meetings, each on Wednesday evenings, the administration and board will begin the process of making cuts to the district's budget. “The next three weeks are really going to be critical to the future of the school district,” said Superintendent Kathryn Powers. Dear Twinsburg Schools Community: Recently, the Ohio Department of Education released a draft ranking list of school districts and school buildings in Ohio.  This ranking is based on the Performance Index score which is tabulated using students’ results on the Ohio Achievement Tests and the Ohio Graduation Tests.  The purpose for the ranking will be to provide parents and taxpayers a new way to evaluate how local schools are performing while allowing educators to compare their performance against their peers.  A first glimpse of the draft ranking list indicates that our Twinsburg students achieve at a very high degree of success as our school district ranked 65th out of 613 school districts in Ohio.  This means that the Twinsburg City …
