Twinsburg girls basketball is undefeated this season and primed for another state title run.
The Twinsburg Lady Tigers basketball team is proving itself to be a powerhouse every year. The Associated Press ranked the Tigers as the top team in the state in the lates poll released on Tuesday. Twinsburg sits at 13-0 after a win at Shaker Heights on Saturday, 66-33, according to The Plain Dealer. The schedule does get more difficult, however, as they host North Canton Hoover on Wednesday. Hoover is ranked seventh in the state and also undefeated with an 11-0 record. Twinsburg is looking for its third-straight state title this season under the guidance of head coach Julie Solis. Twinsburg girls basketball coach Julie Solis is looking to a strong group of seniors to step up this season.
Trying to win a third-straight state championship while losing one of the best players in the state would be a challenge for any team. But if one team could do it, it would be the Twinsburg Lady Tigers. Head Coach Julie Solis is entering the season off to a great start already, leading the Tigers to a 5-0 record. And she's done it without the size of Malina Howard, who is suiting up for the University of Maryland this season. "Malina is a great player and it was great to have her but our identity is a lot different," Solis said. "It makes a difference not having someone who's 6'4"." Twinsburg senior Malina Howard had two points, five rebounds in the 79-78 win
It was a close finish, but in the end Malina Howard's East squad beat the West 79-78 in the 2012 McDonald's All-American Girls High School Basketball Game. Howard played 14 minutes, scoring two points, five rebounds and two assists. The East was able to win on a crazy finish, with Bashaara Graves, a Tennesse Volunteers recruit, making the game-winning free throw, according to ESPN.COM. The post-season fun isn't over yet for Howard, as she will play in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association 2012 High School All-America Game this Sunday in Denver, Colorado. Howard has committed to play basketball for the Maryland Terrapins when she graduates in May.

Malina Howard and company beat Kettering-Fairmount Saturday night for their second Division I State Title
When the Lady Tigers return home today, they will do so as the state champions in girls basketball, again. On Saturday night they defeated Kettering-Fairmount 57-51 to win their second consecutive Division I State Championship. The community will celebrate the accomplishment today with a parade starting at Damon's restaurant parking lot and wind through town ending at the high school. The Twinsburg girls basketball team faces the Reynoldsburg Raiders in a "Battle of the 'Burgs."
Only one game stands between the Twinsburg Lady Tigers basketball team and another chance at the state title. The Tigers will play the Reynoldsburg Raiders tonight at Value City Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein Center in Columbus. Tip off is at 8 p.m. Lead by University of Maryland recruit Malina Howard, the Tigers have a 23-3 (8-0) and have yet to be beat in Ohio. The Tigers used a strong second half to advance to the state final four, beating rival Solon, 54-37 last week. But it won't be that easy. The Raiders will be tough competition, ranked No. 1 in the state by the AP with a 26-0 record. The winning team will head to Columbus next week to play as one of the final four teams in the Division One state championship. Solon, coached by Trish Kruse, has a 22-3 record and gets its big plays from Kristen Confroy and Martha Thompson and Jaime Gluesing. They blew out Mentor, 85-33, on Tuesday to advance to the finals. The accolades keep coming for Lady Tigers basketball standout Malina Howard. Thursday The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with ESPNHS, announced Howard as its 2011-12 Gatorade Ohio Girls Basketball Player of the Year, according to a press release. The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court, distinguishes Howard as Ohio’s best high school girls basketball player. Howard is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year award announced in later this month. The Twinsburg girls basket team faces the Midpark Meteors Tuesday at 8 p.m.
Only two teams can stand between the Twinsburg Lady Tigers basketball team and another trip to the State Final Four in Columbus. The Tigers will look to take down the Midpark Meteors of Middleburg Heights in the first round of the Division I Canton Regional Tournament Tuesday at 8 p.m. The game will be at the Canton Civic Center. The Meteors, coached by Stephanie Mentz, come in the the game 21-2 (13-0). They beat Medina this weekend 74-56 in the sectional tournament final. The Lady Tigers are coming off a big 66-45 win over Howland in the sectional tournament final, improving their record to 21-3 (8-0). The winner of Tuesday's game will face the winner of the Solon/Mentor matchup at 6:15 p.m. The regional final will be Friday at 7:30 p.m. …
