Two Twinsburg students are among the 10 finalists for their essays to stop hatred, as part of the 5th annual Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage Stop the Hate: Youth Speak Out! contest. Twinsburg is the 46th best high school in Ohio and 1,086th nationally, according to the annual rankings prepared by U.S. News & World Report. There are 242 public high schools in Ohio. The school recieved the silver medal and was praised for its participation rate in Advanced Placement courses. The Twinsburg track star hopes to be on the podium in Columbus this track season.
State champion. That's the one title Twinsburg High junior Garrett Crichlow wants to hold in the 1600 Meters at the end of this track season. "That's the ultimate goal for him this season; to be on top of the podium," Coach Sarah Kmet said of her star runner. Based on previous times, Chrichlow is the second-fastest of all Division I returners in the 1600 Meters in Ohio, and he is anxious to become No. 1. Last season he smashed the Tigers record by posting a 4:16, going to the state meet where he finished seventh. At one point Chrichlow was the eighth fastest sophomore in the nation. “I hate waiting for the next season to start, so I’ll go very easy,” Chrichlow said of this past offseason. Apoorva Vallampati, a Twinsburg High School student, was selected as a finalist in the regional writing contest.
Over 1,600 students across Northeast Ohio entered the fifth annual Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage Stop the Hate: Youth Speak Out! essay contest, and contributed solutions to help stem the systemic effects of discrimination. Apoorva Vallampati, a Twinsburg High School student, was one of 15 finalists, according to Adam J. Teresi, the Maltz Museum's operations and media coordinator. The essays addressed a variety of issues, from cyberbullying and racism to anti-Semitism and LGBT issues. "Students compete for a total of $100,000 in scholarships and prizes," said Teresi in a prepared statement.
