ReplyI'm loving reading all of these comments today.
Sort of takes the sting out of having to explain our city to outsiders these past few weeks.
I've been trying to put a good spin on the strike.
Outsiders are well aware that the teachers are not wanted or respected and no one wants to have their kids exposed to any of them. Which is not good for people thinking about moving here. So, the only spin I can give is that IN SPITE of these teachers, the kids, parents and people are fantastic and united in our feelings about wanting to weed out the bad. And reassure others that we are on the right track with the city's awareness, and the current admin and BOE.And, with the kids "strike" today - it helps with that spin.
So, thank you kids!!! -

Yes!
Everyone should hop on over to read that email..
I saw it on their FB page.
Looks like lots of disagreement, threats, power struggle and scandal going on behind the scenes of the SEA - and for more than just 2 months. Almost makes you feel sorry for some of the teachers - but then again...I wish they had spoke up for the good of the kids and stood up against Tracy. -

Yes. I agree.
The guy giving away A & F clothes to the homeless is validating the guys point about who is worthy of this stores clothes. To give away A & F clothes to homeless to make a point, this "generous" individual is actually himself being selective about who he thinks is the least worthy of society. He is himself discriminating against these poor people by deciding who is the least worthy to wear A & F clothing. So, his judgement is just as bad, if not worse.
How would you like to be handed a A & F shirt by this guy? That would mean that you are the lowliest of society - in his eyes.

Unfortunately, right or wrong, this man said what the majority of society feels.
What is the body type of a Hooters waitress?
What is the body type on the Victoria Secret underwear TV show?
What is the body type of a cheerleader?
These are all small figured ladies. They feature "beautiful" people when advertising expensive cars - Lexus,...
In the fashion section of newspapers, the women are thin.
There is a small amount of advertising geared towards the larger woman - but you have to admit that advertisers use the thin models most of the time, especially when the product is more expensive. And that is the market this guy wants. And he feels if others wear his clothes, the clothing will become less desirable because the thin, beautiful people will no longer want what the big person is wearing.
What you have done - created your own line, is what is needed. If there is a need for this type of store, then people should pursue it. But people are not obligated to do so.
If someone is going to be a jerk and say he just wants to sell to thin beautiful people, then that will be his customer. And, these people who are willing to pay for the "privilege" of paying for his clothes are just as stupid as those who pay outrageous amounts for homes and cars just for the status and ability to say they can throw money around foolishly. They think it separates them from the lowlifes.

ReplyMost clothing stores have their target customers.
Christopher and Banks is for regular sizes, but they have their CJ Banks stores for the big folks.
There is/ was a store called 5-7-9, which only sold to small folks.
There's plenty of stores in the mall that sell for the teenage body - the small folks.
There's Lane Bryant for the big folks.
Then, you have other stores that carry size 2-2x for small to big.So, this guy made the mistake of saying who he wants to shop there in his store. But, the only folks shopping there would be those who can wear what he sells - those who know the merchandise that they carry.
Everyone has a choice of which store to shop in - depending on your size and the clothing style offered. If someone, as a big person, thinks they can wear what A & F sells, go ahead and try. But chances are, this body shape shops somewhere else anyhow. If not - look at yourself in the mirror. So, why should anyone care that this man stated who his target customer is?
How about the reverse? Maybe people should be mad that Lane Bryant doesn't make more stylish clothes for a young, small body. Why would that be any different?People should be free to shop wherever they find what they like and fits their body.
And, people should be able to sell to whatever target group they want - its THEIR business. -

ReplyFor those that must have been taught by a Strongsville teacher, or are one - learn to comprehend what you read.
My problem is not with people making money. I believe in hard work and reaping the rewards of your own success - not in those seeking handouts or special favors. Of course I do - I believe in a person's or business' right to hang onto their profits they have earned - and keep them from those wanting to redistribute those gains. A person should be entitled to enjoy their gains.
My problem is if the city shows favoritism to certain individuals, especially when it comes at the expense to the rest of the 44,000 citizens. I also have a problem with the city if they have different standards when a friend of the city wants something done vs. anyone else.
I also have a problem with putting a McDonalds in an area that was to be made better. I want a better city - not what they seem to be giving us on Pearl, from Sprague to Boston. This is not my vision of what I want the city to look like.
So, does this corner reflect both items I take issue with?
Not the fact that a family has money or success, but what favoritism they might get or even expect to get from the city.
And the poor decision to allow this fast food place there. -

The only hope of saving the rest of Pearl is to leave the south end that is currently zoned residential left that way. Force it to be something like a senior campus - providing all types of living from individual homes to nursing facility.
There's plenty of acreage for that, it would be perfect in a community that is "aging" to enable people to relocate there and stay within the same city, and then prevent further commercial development on Pearl.
Our household will not be voting for any rezoning of that property, and I doubt many others will. So, the city should start work now to try and attract that kind of use for that property. -

ReplyLooks like the residents DO NOT want a place like McDonalds there.
We want something better - something to cleanup the north end and not make Pearl just one trashy strip from end to end.ANYONE ON COUNCIL listening this time?
Hope the powers in charge are listening - and don't just say yes - like they did for that body burner. But, maybe that's what happens when local owners and city "friends" want something - just say yes to them??? And who cares about the other 44,000 residents??

Hey, no brain...
"respect" teachers?
So, they are on a pedestal?
Yeah, right!
They don't deserve more respect than any other average person. Teachers are mere mortals, with a mere education degree from college, who haven't done anything spectacular to be so looked up to. (And I'm not talking about the amount of education - I'm talking about the difficulty of attaining THAT degree to others)
Your kind of thinking is what got our city in the mess it did with the thugs that went on strike here - they got this god-like complex.
